Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a physical therapy appointment?

Your first appointment will begin with our “intake process” where you will provide the minimal amount of information needed to process your insurance claim.  Next, we will take you to a private room where you and your physical therapist will discuss your symptoms, medical history, physician diagnosis and any other treatment you have received for this injury or condition.  Your physical therapist will take measurements and ask questions to complete their understanding of your needs, and will document the treatment plan with   short- and long-term goals for your plan of care.  The plan of care will be confirmed by your physician and implemented with subsequent physical therapy appointments.

How should I dress for my physical therapy appointment?

You should wear casual clothing that enables you to move comfortably.  If you come to our clinic from work, you may change into comfortable clothing in one of our private rooms.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring your physician’s prescription; insurance card(s); and a list of all medications you are taking for this condition or for any other diagnosis.

Do I need a referral or prescription for physical therapy?

Most insurance companies require a physician’s prescription in order to qualify for reimbursement.

Is physical therapy covered by my insurance?

We participate with many insurance companies, including Medicare, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Cigna.  If we do not participate with your insurance carrier, we will work with you to determine your “out-of-network” benefits so you may decide if you want to come to our clinic for physical therapy.  If you have a Health Savings Account, you may pay for our services through this account regardless of whether we participate with your insurance company.

We also treat patients on a self-pay basis in situations where their physical therapy benefits have been fully utilized or restricted by their insurance company.  In today’s volatile reimbursement environment, patients may also choose not to utilize their insurance coverage and incur experience rating that could increase their subsequent premiums.  We are happy to discuss self-pay options with our prospective patients.

How long should I expect to be there for my first appointment?

Please anticipate that your appointment will last for approximately one hour, including the “intake process” of exchanging information that will enable your insurance claim to be processed.

What is the cost of therapeutic massage?

We offer therapeutic massage at the low rate of $40 per half-hour for a “basic” massage and $70 for a full hour.  Deep tissue and aromatherapy massages carry an additional cost.  For all clients, we offer your fifth massage free.  New Jersey Sales Tax is collected and paid with each massage service.

What are your hours of operation?

We are open Monday through Thursday from 8AM until 6PM and Friday from 8AM until 3PM; our last physical therapy appointments are scheduled to begin 30 minutes before closing.  Individual practitioner hours reflect a four-day workweek, so it is important to schedule your appointments in advance so we may best accommodate your scheduling needs.
